This original Georgian Plantation home was built by prosperous businessman Adam Tunno in 1805. Known as the "King of Scots" he amassed a large fortune during Charleston's mercantilism years, 1793-1803, and served on the First Continental Congress in July 1774. The flag that proudly flies from the second floor balcony and also known as the ''Fort McHenry Flag", would have adorned 217 Ashley Avenue when construction was completed in 1805 - as note, this was the first year of the second term of Thomas Jefferson's presidency.
