This week make a point of getting out to enjoy some of the seasonal events around town.
Walk in the footsteps of rice planters during a visit to the 1803 Federal-style Joseph Manigault House, which members of the Garden Club of Charleston annually decorate in true 19th-century fashion by using only live plant materials available during that time period.
Or, travel back in time to Christmas 1782, at Middleton Place: Grand Illumination,December 15th & 16th. Stroll through gardens illuminated by torchlight, candlelight and starlight and hear costumed interpreters along the way tell stories of the joyous holiday season when the British evacuated Charleston at the end of the Revolutionary War. On the Greensward, enjoy a warm fire, live music and refreshments, and enjoy a sumptuous Southern buffet dinner.
If you’re looking for that perfect gift or inspiration to deck the halls this weekend, you’ll find everything you need at the Charleston Farmers’ Market. Browse handcrafted items from local artisans, enjoy the sounds of the holidays by local musicians, breathe in the smell of fresh baked goods from local chefs, and behold the beauty of the fresh greenery and flowers from Lowcountry farmers. Remember to keep an eye out for Santa.
Wherever you are, enjoy this very special time of year in Charleston!
