Charleston’s Brand New Gaillard Performing Arts Center

Charleston is well-known for – among many other things – its history, architecture, and award-winning restaurants. The brand new Gaillard Performing Arts Center, which opened on October 18th, 2015 with a performance by the world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, is a new attraction we’re proud to add to the list.

The 23,000 square foot, Neoclassical building includes a grand, European style performance hall, ballroom, municipal offices, and extensive lawns. For those of us in Charleston who’ve watched its construction over the last several years, the finished product is something grand to behold.

Since it’s opening, Charleston’s residents – and its visitors – have had the opportunity to see a performance of The Nutcracker by the Charlotte Ballet, The Vienna Boys Choir, and an evening with award-winning documentary filmmaker Ken Burns and Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. The best part? With its location on the intersection of Calhoun Street and East Bay Street, it is for residents of several of Charleston’s boroughs a quick 5 to 10 minute walk from home.

Many of us from Carriage Properties were excited to have attended the Gaillard’s opening, none more so than our newest agent, Butler Derrick and his wife Jessica, captured in the pages of the Charleston Mercury, below.
