Spring has finally made it to Charleston, so it is time to get outside! Now the weather is warming and the sun is shining, we all want to get out of doors to make up for all those days that we were stuck inside. And what better way to do it than to eat a meal outdoors? While Charleston’s vast array of restaurants offer some really wonderful al fresco dining opportunities, so does our city itself, especially when you get to look out over Charleston Harbor. So today on the blog we are going to share a couple of our favorite spots to eat outside … and where to pick up your picnic!
One of our favorite spots to eat outside is White Point Gardens. First used as a public garden in 1837, the park then became a fortification during the Civil War. Today the park is a great spot to lay out a blanket and enjoy the breeze off the harbor and the wind rustling in the palmetto trees.
Our other favorite waterfront spot downtown is Waterfront Park. Aptly named, this park hugs the waterfront and features the famous Pineapple Fountain as well as a pier where you can catch a water taxi to Shem Creek.
Ready for your picnic? Below are some of our favorite spots nearby where you can grab a sandwich and stroll to either one of these beautiful Charleston parks.
Bull Street Gourmet – King Street
We love the large salads and big foccacia sandwiches at this gourmet market on King Street. We love the ham and cheese and the chicken salad.
Fast & French – Broad Street
A Broad Street staple for many years, this miniature spot serves up delicious french specialities like croque monsieur. Yum.
goat.sheep.cow. – Church Street
A new sandwich everyday, made on an amazing EVO baguette with the delicious meats and cheeses the shop is famous for, they’re so popular we recommend calling ahead to reserve your sandwich.
Brown Dog Deli – Broad Street
With a full traditional deli menu, and a separate menu for hot dogs, you’re sure to find something for everyone at this Broad Street spot.
Enjoy!
