The historic architecture of Charleston is of the utmost importance to the city and its inhabitants. The highly successful preservation of our historic buildings is one of the reasons that Charleston is so special, and draws so many visitors each year. It is with this focus on successful preservation that each year the Preservation Society of Charleston gives the Carolopolis Award. Since 1953 this award has been recognizing achievement in exterior preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation in Charleston, and in sixty plus years the Preservation Society has given over 1,300 awards. As stated on the Preservation Society’s website, “Award-winning projects demonstrate responsible stewardship of Charleston’s historic architecture which demonstrate a high quality of work.” Carriage Properties has long been a supporter of the Preservation Society of Charleston, and this year was one of the Sponsors of the Carolopolis Awards. Below, a few of our favorite award winning buildings from this year’s Carolopolis Awards.
